born as the second oldest, and only girl, of four to eduardo and alma romero, luiza had a life full of ups and downs. her parents were hard working and both worked two jobs to provide for the family of six. when they weren't working, they took their children to church, trying to raise them to be morally right and to accept jesus into their lives so they could make it to heaven. this want crossed over not just to saturday night and sunday morning masses, but by sending the romero children to catholic schools.
from luiza's first day of school to her junior year of high school, she attended and all girls catholic school, while her brothers were allowed to attend a co-ed school. her parents tried to keep boys out of the mind of their daughter, so much so that they set in place a rule that she was not allowed to date until she was seventeen years old. this was inspite of her brothers being allowed to have girlfriends from a young age. these double standards caused frustration to the young luiza, often leading to her secretly rebel.
at the age of sixteen, she found out she was pregnant by her secret boyfriend at the time. despite the catholic values that were getting instilled in her day in and day out, she decided to make the decision to terminate her pregnancy before either of their families found out about it. the decision, one that she weighed the pros and cons of for weeks, stayed quiet until her boyfriend confessed to his parents, who then told eduardo and alma about what at happened.
the two kicked her out of their house and she ended up moving in with one of her aunts. when news of what happened spread, her school kicked her out as well, and she enrolled in public school halfway through her junior year of high school. the move, despite being hard, was one of the best things for her since it allowed her to be a normal teenager and not be confined to the rules of religion.
after high school, she was accepted to attended the university of southern california for marketing. originally she went in undecided, not knowing where she wanted to be in her life but after taking a marketing class, she fell in love with it. interning with some of the top marketing firms in the greater los angeles area, she got her foot in the door to kick start her career.
once she graduated from college, luiza got a job at the1stmovement as a marketing coordinator. moving up throughout the company, luiza heard of a job opportunity available at the denver branch as a digital production manager. taking a chance, she applied for it, thinking that her life was in need of a change and within a couple months, she found out she got the position.
in 2011, luiza moved her life from los angeles, california to denver, colorado. at first it was a drastic change, mostly due to the fact she moved during the winter and never experienced snow before, also due to the difference in life style. all the sudden it seemed like the go go go she experienced slowed down and she was able to enjoy her life. it was then she experienced the joy of microbreweries. within the year, she learned how to brew her own beer and decided that despite her love of marketing, she wished she could change carrer paths.
